The EW&CCA Bowling Club is an integral
part of the Community Association and is enjoyed by many residents, primarily
local but some from farther afield.
We are a social bowling club and do not
participate in any of the Liverpool leagues although during each season we do
have ‘friendlies’, both home and away, with another local bowling club for
members who wish to take advantage of some light-hearted competition,
Its main function is to provide a congenial
daily meeting place throughout the summer where members can socialise and enjoy
a game of bowls. There are no age barriers, and the club operates mostly in the
afternoons.
The green opens in April and closes at the
end of October. During the season members can come as little or as often as
they wish and it is very rare, unless it is raining, that there are too few
people to make up a game.
Games begin every afternoon at 1.30pm and
members arrive prior to that time in order to enter the draw and allow the matches
to be arranged. There is a break for
tea, biscuits and chatting midway through the afternoon.
We also held many other social events – in
house competitions, days out and quizzes plus a grand end of season
dinner.
In the winter months membership also
includes the option of indoor short mat bowling two afternoons a week in the
Community Hall. In addition, on Thursday afternoons during the winter months
the club also runs a weekly whist drive which is not exclusive to members.
